Big changes are coming for the Fort Worth Independent School District as the Texas Education Agency (TEA) moves forward with plans to replace the current FWISD Board of Trustees with a state-appointed Board of Managers.
According to education watchdog groups, this decision follows years of concern over district leadership, student outcomes, and financial oversight. Critics argue that trustees failed to prioritize students, teachers, and taxpayers, instead aligning too closely with outside interests and political agendas.
The transition will temporarily remove local control, placing FWISD under state management until stability and accountability are restored. The TEA is now accepting applications from qualified community members interested in serving on the new Board of Managers.
Applicants must complete an online application and meet the state’s eligibility requirements. To learn more or apply, visit https://tea.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0vtC5k9pHDSmQ6O.
While the move has stirred debate among residents and educators, many are hopeful this intervention will bring renewed focus, accountability, and progress for Fort Worth’s students and schools.
