According to the National Weather Service’s recent outlook, North Texas is preparing for snow and subfreezing temperatures as early as Jan. 7-13, 2025.
The Climate Prediction Center’s (CPC) forecast indicates that northerly winds from the Canadian Arctic will bring a significant chill to much of Texas, with subfreezing conditions expected across the state, except for its southern regions.
The CPC also predicts an increased likelihood of heavy snow in the eastern U.S., as cold winds and a surface low pressure system over the Canadian Maritimes create favorable conditions. Snow may even extend into the lower Mississippi Valley and southern Plains, as moisture from the Gulf of Mexico interacts with the cold front. Early models show snowfall totals of over 1.5 inches for North Texas, along with Arkansas and Tennessee.
