For many Benbrook neighbors, trash day has turned into a weekly guessing game, and patience is wearing thin.
Across multiple neighborhoods, including Wallace Heights, Hilltop Heights, Timbercreek, and along Mildred Street, residents report missed or partial trash pickups, sometimes stretching two weeks or more.
Some streets saw recycling collected, but regular trash was left behind. Others had only a few bags taken, with piles of leaves or overflow left sitting at the curb. In several cases, pickups eventually happened days later with little to no explanation.
The concerns are not just about inconvenience. Missed service has led to trash blowing through yards, attracting pests, and creating an overall mess in neighborhoods that residents say were once reliably serviced. Several neighbors noted this problem did not start with the holidays and has been happening far too often throughout the year.
Many residents say they have contacted Republic Services directly, only to be told delays are due to staffing issues, truck problems, or holiday volume.
Others were advised to contact the City of Benbrook instead.
In response, multiple residents have called City Hall and the city manager’s office, urging the city to address the issue directly with the contractor.
While some neighbors expressed understanding for drivers dealing with heavy post-Christmas loads and equipment breakdowns, most agree that inconsistent service and lack of communication are unacceptable. Several longtime residents say this is the worst trash service they have seen in decades.
Others raised broader concerns about Benbrook’s curbside system, questioning why standardized bins are not used and suggesting many residents would pay slightly more for a cleaner, more reliable setup.
As the year closes, neighbors are encouraging one another to do more than vent online. The consistent advice is to call the city, document missed pickups, and push for accountability or changes as the current contract comes under renewed scrutiny.
For now, Benbrook residents are left hoping that trash day becomes dependable again and that 2026 brings fewer missed pickups and less garbage blowing down the street.
