Mary’s Creek Rezoning Faces Pushback Ahead of Dec. 11 P&Z Meeting.

A key development issue is drawing fresh attention in Benbrook as residents prepare for the December 11 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.

Longtime resident Greg Clem shared a notable update from the city’s staff report regarding the proposed rezoning of roughly 80 acres along Mary’s Creek.

According to the report, city staff does not support expanding development within this section of the planned district. Their position rests on the City Council’s most recent direction, which affirmed that the current zoning aligns with Benbrook’s long-range goals and its vision for this sensitive area. Staff indicated there is no basis to approve a zoning change until the council adopts a new policy or redefines its goals for Mary’s Creek.

While residents welcomed the staff recommendation, Clem encouraged the community to stay engaged. He is urging neighbors to attend the P&Z meeting on Thursday, December 11 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall to voice their concerns and help ensure the creek corridor remains protected.

Community participation has been strong on this issue, and residents say the upcoming meeting is another critical moment to keep their voices in the conversation.
