If you have ever stepped into the Benbrook Senior Center, you know it is less about passing time and more about sharing it. March is shaping up to be another full month of connection, conversation, and a little friendly competition.
Located inside Benbrook City Hall, the Senior Center is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The doors may open in the morning, but for many regulars, the real draw is the routine and the relationships.
Weekly activities keep the calendar steady. Bridge is played on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 9 a.m. Indoor Tai Chi Walking meets on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9 a.m. Hand and Foot runs Monday through Friday at 9 a.m., while Pegs and Jokers gather on Monday and Friday at noon.
Card and table game fans can also find Canasta on Tuesday and Thursday at 9 a.m., Mexican Train Dominoes on Tuesday and Thursday at noon, Mah Jong on Tuesday at 9 a.m., Dominoes on Wednesday at 9 a.m., and 42 Dominoes on Friday at 9 a.m.
March also brings special events worth marking on the calendar. On March 4 at 11:30 a.m., Birthday Bingo with Senior Healthcare Advisor Maleah Ensey requires prior registration. The center will close early at 11:30 a.m. on March 6, but that evening from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Friday Night Bingo takes over.
On March 11, an 8 a.m. breakfast outing with Cathy and Kathy at Cracker Barrel requires prior registration. Later that same day at 11:30 a.m., St. Patrickโs Day Rock Painting invites participants to get creative, with registration required. The month wraps up with a March 25 field trip luncheon to Wow House and Painted Rock Distribution at 11:30 a.m., also requiring prior registration.
For questions or to register for events, residents can contact Cathy Connelly at CConnelly@benbrook-tx.gov.
In a season that hints at spring, the Senior Center continues to offer something steady and meaningful: a place to show up, sit down at the table, and belong.
