For drivers trying to avoid construction on I-30 by taking the frontage roads, next week’s commute may still require a little extra patience.
As work continues on the I-30 corridor improvement project, several frontage road closures and lane reductions are scheduled throughout the area near Benbrook and west Fort Worth.
From June 8-13, the westbound I-30 frontage road between Alemeda Street and Chapel Creek Boulevard will be reduced to a single lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day for ongoing construction.
Drivers should also be aware of full daytime closures on portions of the westbound frontage road between Alemeda Street and Academy Drive on June 10, 12, 16, and 18. During those closures, traffic will be detoured north on Alemeda Street, west on Amber Ridge Drive, and south on Academy Boulevard while crews perform bridge construction.
Additional changes are expected on June 12, when traffic on the eastbound I-30 frontage road between Lost Creek Boulevard and Verdi Vista Drive is scheduled to shift onto newly completed pavement. The move will allow construction crews to begin work on a permanent inside frontage road lane.
Several longer-term lane reductions remain in place as well. The westbound frontage road between Alemeda Street and Old Weatherford Road continues to operate with a single travel lane, while the eastbound frontage road between Longvue Avenue and the Alemeda Street exit ramp remains narrowed to one lane for drainage, roadway, and structural improvements.
For many local residents, frontage roads have become the backup plan during interstate construction. With multiple closures and traffic shifts happening over the coming days, motorists may want to allow a few extra minutes and keep an eye on posted detour signs as work progresses.
