If your daily commute takes you through the I-20 and FM 1187 corridor, you may want to leave a little earlier next week.
TxDOT has announced additional closures and traffic changes as work continues on the I-20/I-30 interchange improvement project, a long-term effort to ease congestion in one of North Texas’ busiest traffic corridors.
The most significant impact for Benbrook-area drivers comes June 16-17, when the eastbound I-20 entrance ramp from FM 1187/FM 3325 will be closed daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for safety device replacement. Drivers will be detoured to eastbound I-30, then to I-820 West Loop before reconnecting with I-20. Transportation officials are warning motorists to expect significant delays and consider alternate routes.
In addition to the temporary closure, ongoing construction is reducing eastbound and westbound I-20 traffic to two lanes between the I-20/I-30 split and FM 1187/FM 3325. Shoulder closures also remain in place from Markum Ranch Road to the interchange.
Drivers should also be aware of permanent traffic pattern changes implemented earlier this spring. The former westbound I-20 exit near FM 1187/FM 3325 closed in March and was replaced by a new Exit 420 located closer to the I-30 interchange. Eastbound drivers entering I-20 from FM 1187/FM 3325 are now using a relocated entrance ramp farther east along the frontage road.

For many Benbrook residents, the construction has become a regular part of the drive. While the short-term inconvenience continues, officials say the improvements are designed to create safer traffic flow and reduce future bottlenecks along the corridor.
