Former Benbrook Bobcat Lindsey Leads UChicago Defense.

Former Benbrook Bobcat Jake Lindsey made his presence felt Thursday night in the University of Chicago football season opener.

Now a junior defensive back for the Maroons, Lindsey led the Maroons with 10 tackles and recovered a fumble in a 48-34 road loss to Trine University in Angola, Indiana.

His fumble recovery came early after Ivan Tulupov knocked the ball loose, giving the Maroons possession in the red zone and setting up a field goal that cut Trine’s early lead to 6-3.

The Maroons fell behind 34-17 by halftime before making a second-half run that pulled them within one score. Trine eventually held off the comeback and added a late touchdown to finish the night with a 48-34 win.

The 10-tackle night was a strong start to Lindsey’s junior season and familiar territory for Benbrook fans.

Lindsey, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound defensive back that graduated from Benbrook Middle-High School, was a three-time team captain and two-time Defensive MVP for the Bobcats, He also set the school record for pass breakups while earning varsity letters in football, track, golf and baseball.

At the University of Chicago, Lindsey earned Academic All-Midwest Conference honors in both 2024 and 2025. He entered his junior season after appearing in nine games during his first two years with the Maroons.

The Maroons are off next week before Lindsey and the Maroons return Sept. 19 for their home opener against Nebraska Wesleyan.
