North Texas lost a familiar voice and face this week with the passing of Ed Wallace, a longtime radio host and television contributor whose love for cars was matched only by his love for people. Wallace died on December 28 at his Fort Worth home. He was 72.
For decades, Saturday mornings across Dallas-Fort Worth began with Wheels With Ed Wallace on KLIF 570, a show that debuted in 1993 and grew far beyond car reviews. What started as an automotive program became a wide-ranging conversation about life, music, stories, and the everyday moments listeners connected with. Wallace retired from the show about a year ago after nearly 30 years on the air.
Television viewers also knew him well from his regular appearances on FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth, where he reviewed new cars and trucks and brought the same warmth and curiosity that defined his radio work. Colleagues consistently described him as joyful, generous with his time, and deeply passionate about his craft.
Wallace was a true original in local media, blending automotive expertise, rock-and-roll spirit, and thoughtful conversation into a voice that felt like part of the family for many North Texans. At his request, no memorial service is planned. His legacy lives on through decades of broadcasts, loyal listeners, and the countless mornings he helped start with insight, humor, and heart.
Condolences are extended to his family, including his wife Judi, and to the many fans who considered Ed Wallace a trusted companion on the road and on the radio.
