Community Support Sought for Dr. Opal Lee’s 100th Birthday Gala.

•

Dr. Opal Lee turns 100 only once, and organizers of a September celebration in Fort Worth are asking the community to help make the milestone memorable.

The Tarrant County Democratic Party is seeking sponsors, community partners, in-kind donations, and other support for the Dr. Opal Lee Centennial Birthday Celebration, set for Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Fort Worth Museum of Science & History.

Organizers say budget challenges have created an urgent need for help with parking and valet services, entertainment, production, décor, printing, photography, food and beverages, marketing and other event expenses. Businesses, foundations and individuals who can provide financial support, services or connections to potential partners are also being asked to step forward.

The black-tie or formal event, with sneakers encouraged, will celebrate Lee’s 100th birthday and her decades of work for civil rights, voting rights and national recognition of Juneteenth. The evening also serves as a fundraiser for the Tarrant County Democratic Party ahead of the 2026 midterm election.

The celebration begins with a 4 p.m. leadership gathering with Lee and her family, followed by a 4:30 p.m. VIP cocktail reception. Dinner seating opens at 5 p.m., with the program beginning at 5:30 p.m. Speakers will be announced later.

The Fort Worth Museum of Science & History is located at 1600 Gendy St. in Fort Worth.

Those interested in attending, contributing, or learning more can find event details through the Dr. Opal Lee Centennial Birthday Celebration page.
