This year’s Walk for Freedom may have missed the physical presence of Dr. Opal Lee, but her spirit walked strong through Fort Worth.
Portraits of the beloved “Grandmother of Juneteenth” were carried with pride by participants who showed up from all over to celebrate freedom, unity, and her vision.
Despite recent health challenges keeping her from attending in person, Dr. Lee’s impact was unmistakable. The community walked side by side with Fort Worth officers, celebrating a legacy of resilience and progress that continues to inspire.
The 2.5-mile journey wasn’t just a walk. It was a moment to honor history, connect with neighbors, and remember why Juneteenth matters.
