Opal Lee Hospitalized, Expected Back Soon for Juneteenth Walk.

Benbrook and Fort Worth residents are keeping Dr. Opal Lee in their thoughts after the 98-year-old was hospitalized while visiting Cincinnati, Ohio, to receive an award.

Known nationwide as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” Dr. Lee is expected to be released soon and return home to Fort Worth.

She still plans to kick off this year’s Juneteenth celebration in person at Opal’s Walk for Freedom on Wednesday, June 19.
