After a 12-6 loss to Everman in their previous tournament outing, the Benbrook Bobcats baseball team hit the road looking for a reset. They found it on Thursday at Cabaniss Baseball Field in Corpus Christi.
Behind a steady start from Dan Stiefvater, the Bobcats jumped on Los Fresnos early.
In the first inning, Hudson Stockton delivered a two-run single, and a wild pitch added another run to give Benbrook a 3-0 lead.
Then, Stiefvater and the Bobcats’ defense held the Falcons in check, allowing just one run in the second and shutting them down the rest of the way.
The Bobcats added two more runs in the fifth to secure a 5-1 win and open the tournament on a positive note.
Stockton and Brennan Barton each recorded two hits and drove in two runs. Tanner Madara swiped two bases as the Bobcats collected four steals overall and turned a double play in the field.
Stiefvater earned the win, giving up one run on three hits over four innings with three strikeouts. Trentin Hornbeck closed the door to record the save.
The Bobcats improve to 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in tournament play. They are back in action against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial at the time of this publishing, with additional matchups scheduled against Gregory Portland at 10 AM and Hutto at 3 PM tomorrow.
For Bobcat fans following along from home, the early response after a tough loss shows a team that is settling in and finding its rhythm at the right time.
