Benbrook Council Covers Safety, Staffing, and Community Updates.

BENBROOK, TX — The latest City Council meeting in Benbrook moved quickly, but covered a few decisions that quietly shape how the city runs day to day.

The meeting opened with routine business, including approval of minutes from the previous session and a presentation from Alliance for Children. From there, the focus shifted to staffing and services.

One key item was the confirmation of a new appointment to the Civil Service Commission. With a recent vacancy, city leadership recommended Russell Kirkpatrick to fill the open seat through early 2027. Council approved the appointment without opposition.

The council also approved the city’s annual fire and EMS services contract with Tarrant County Emergency Services District No. 1. The agreement outlines how emergency services will continue to operate in parts of the area, including updated pricing that moves to flat rates per call.

City staff estimates the agreement will bring in over $600,000 based on recent service levels, along with a one-time payment to help offset equipment costs.

Beyond the votes, council members shared a few updates that hit closer to home. Residents were reminded that city offices would close for Good Friday, and the city paused to honor the memory of Charles “Chuck” Atkinson, a longtime community member connected to the Benbrook Sailing Center.

There was also a note about something new on the horizon. Jake’s restaurant was expected to open in early April, adding another local option for residents.

The meeting wrapped up in under half an hour, a sign that while the agenda was not long, the decisions made will continue to play out across the city in the weeks ahead.
