The town of Center Point continues to navigate the aftermath of the devastating July 4th flood, with local heroes and residents stepping up in extraordinary ways.
Over the weekend, between 1,200 and 1,500 volunteers poured in to help search the floodplain from Wharton Road to Homilius Road. That support led to the recovery of several victims and, most miraculously, the rescue of three survivors during the storm’s worst moments.
Now, the focus tightens. Search operations are moving from broad volunteer efforts to specialized teams using trained search dogs, horses, and heavy machinery. Volunteers with SAR (Search and Rescue) experience are being asked to report to the Center Point Fire Station by 7:30 a.m. Monday and Tuesday. Those without SAR training are encouraged not to participate, as this next phase requires precise coordination and specialized skills.
Traffic at the station has been heavy, so volunteers are asked to park at Lions Park or Center Point School to help keep roadways clear. Additionally, lost firefighting gear continues to surface. If anyone finds helmets, bunker gear, or other items, please return them to the station. These are critical tools that are costly to replace.
While the outpouring of food and water donations has been generous, the station is now at capacity. Moving forward, all drop-offs and pick-ups of food, water, and cleaning supplies should be directed to the CPISD Little Gymnasium on China Street. For questions, contact Britny Cranford at (830) 377-6845.
As for current needs, the list is short but vital:
- Heavy-duty metal freezer shelves
- Electrolyte mixes (like Liquid I.V.)
- Gatorade
- Cleaning rags
- Financial assistance
Monetary donations can be sent via check to:
CPVFD, P.O. Box 494, Center Point, TX 78010
Although a Venmo account is available, concerns about copycat accounts make checks the safer route for now.
Lastly, both the annual BBQ fundraiser and the community parade scheduled for July 12 have been canceled. Leaders are considering a reschedule for the fall, possibly tied to a community homecoming.
To all who have cooked meals, carried water, donated supplies, or helped shoulder the weight of this crisis, the Center Point Volunteer Fire Department extends its deepest thanks. Your support is making all the difference.
