What’s the Holdup with Benbrook’s New City Hall?

If you’ve driven by the new City Hall lately and wondered why progress seems to have stalled, you’re not alone.

Residents have been sharing questions and theories about the apparent pause in construction, and while some concerns sound like punchlines, others point to the nuts and bolts of project delays.

The most commonly cited hiccup? The clock tower. Several locals noted a holdup with the manufacturer, which has delayed placing the tower on top of the building. That one piece is more than just decorative. Until it’s installed, the surrounding scaffolding and final exterior touches can’t be cleared.

But the tower isn’t the only piece still missing. There’s a chunk of work left on the site, including the final paving of sidewalks and the setup of the parking lot. Landscaping typically comes last, once the heavy machinery and crews have finished the more challenging tasks. A proposed splash pad area may also still be in the pipeline, depending on the scope of the original plan.

As for the rumors of running out of money? City projects like this are usually tied to previously approved budgets and bond funding, which means delays are more likely due to contractor issues or material timelines than funding vanishing into thin air.

In the meantime, the structure stands, part finished, part incomplete, and Benbrook residents continue to watch for signs of life at the site. Until the hands of that tower start turning, we’ll have to keep checking our own watches.
