FWISD College Night Scheduling Draws Criticism Amid Athletic Events.

•

For some Fort Worth ISD families, Thursday evening presents a scheduling dilemma: attend College Night or support their students competing in football and volleyball games.

The district’s annual College Night is scheduled for October 29, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at Will Rogers Memorial Center, giving students and families a chance to explore college options.

However, the event coincides with several athletic competitions involving FWISD schools, including volleyball playoff matches for Benbrook Middle-High School, Southwest, Arlington Heights, and Eastern Hills.

Five district football teams also have games scheduled Thursday, creating additional conflicts for student-athletes, band members, cheerleaders, trainers, and families.

FWISD Watchdog, a district-focused social media page, criticized the scheduling decision, citing concerns from parents who say students involved in extracurricular activities may miss the opportunity to attend. The page also claimed that previously scheduled college field trips were canceled, although those cancellations have not been independently confirmed.

Benbrook families planning to attend can register through Schoolinks by selecting the October 29 event under Engage.

The scheduling conflict raises a practical concern for families whose students are balancing college preparation with school commitments, particularly those participating in Thursday’s playoff games.
