Ever wondered how equestrian competitions work or what it takes to coach a nationally ranked college team?
TCU Equestrian Head Coach Haley Schoolfield joins the latest episode of Frogs in a Pod, TCU Athletics’ podcast, for a conversation about the program’s 20-year history and the challenges of collegiate equestrian competition.
Schoolfield discusses coaching 35 student-athletes and caring for approximately 45 horses, while explaining some of the sport’s unique rules. Riders compete on the opposing team’s horses and have just four minutes to get familiar with an unfamiliar horse before competing.
The episode also explores why equestrian remains classified as an NCAA emerging sport despite its growth at the collegiate level.
