Friday night brought a packed gym, loud student sections and plenty of back-and-forth between Benbrook and Arlington Heights. By the end, though, the Lady Yellowjackets had quieted the Lady Bobcats’ three-game winning streak.
Benbrook entered the match 12-9 and grabbed the opening set 25-20 in front of a standing-room-only crowd.
But Arlington Heights settled in, and communication became a difference-maker. The Lady Bobcats had breakdowns at key moments, while the Yellowjackets found enough rhythm to take three straight sets and close out the match with a 26-24 win in the fourth.
The energy in the gym never let up. Students traded chants across the court, broke into dance-offs and even played rock-paper-scissors from opposite sides of the stands while both teams battled on the floor.
The loss drops Benbrook to 12-10 and ends its three-game winning streak.
There won’t be much time to dwell on it. The Lady Bobcats head to Rio Vista on Saturday for tournament play, with another opportunity to clean up the communication, keep growing and start a new streak.
