FORT WORTH, Texas. A suspect has been arrested following Thursday morning’s deadly road rage shooting on eastbound Interstate 20 near Benbrook.
Fort Worth police arrested Patrick Lawrence, 37, and charged him with murder in the shooting death of LaTaivia Davis, an employee at E. Ray Elementary School in Everman ISD.
Police said Davis and Lawrence were traveling eastbound near the Hulen Mall area around 6:30 a.m. when an apparent road rage encounter occurred. Investigators said the suspect pulled alongside Davis’ vehicle and fired multiple shots before leaving the scene. Davis died from her injuries.
Lawrence was arrested later Thursday following an investigation involving several Fort Worth Police Department units.
The shooting and subsequent investigation closed eastbound I-20 near Granbury Road for much of the morning, creating significant delays for drivers traveling from Benbrook and surrounding areas. The interstate has since reopened.
Everman ISD said counseling and support resources are being made available to students and staff affected by Davis’ death.
