Some people leave a lasting mark not through grand gestures, but through quiet acts of kindness repeated over and over again.
This past weekend, Benbrook 4 Paws shared the passing of longtime volunteer, dog trainer, veteran, and friend Ricky D., who recently lost a courageous battle with cancer.
A proud Vietnam veteran from Broken Bow, Oklahoma, Ricky was known for his love of family, his devotion to friends, and his deep compassion for animals. At Benbrook 4 Paws, he became a familiar and trusted presence, helping countless shelter dogs gain the confidence and skills needed to find loving homes.
Whether working with a nervous rescue, offering training advice, or simply spending time with those around him, Ricky had a way of making both people and animals feel at ease.
The organization reflected on the many lives he touched, noting that his patience, encouragement, and steady presence helped shape the journey of countless dogs and the volunteers who worked alongside him.
While his absence will be deeply felt, his legacy remains woven into the fabric of Benbrook 4 Paws and the community he served so faithfully.
For many, Ricky will be remembered as a veteran, a volunteer, and a friend. For the dogs whose lives he helped change, he was simply someone who believed in them when they needed it most.
