It has been a strong week for Benbrook athletics, and the momentum carried over to the baseball field Tuesday night.
Fresh off the Lady Bobcats’ perfect district run, the Benbrook Bobcats baseball team took the road against the Carter-Riverside Eagles and made its intentions clear early.
Before the Eagles could settle in, the Bobcats had already built a lead behind a burst of offense in the first inning. Tanner Madara opened the scoring with a solo home run. It was moments later, though, that teammate Ethan Tucker followed with a three-run shot, and Austin Cross added an RBI single to make it 5-0.
The Eagles answered with two runs in the bottom half, but that was as close as it would get.
The Bobcats came right back in the second inning with another five-run stretch. Chevy Martinez drove in a run, Tucker added another, and Cross capped the inning with a two-run triple. By the time the dust settled, the Bobcats were in control at 10-2 and never let up, finishing with a 12-2 win.
On the mound, Madara matched the offense with a dominant performance. He struck out 13 over five innings, allowing just three hits and two runs.
At the plate, the production was steady from top to bottom. Tucker drove in four runs on three hits, while Chevy Martinez went a perfect four-for-four. Cross, Madara, and Gilulianno Martinez each added multiple hits as Benbrook totaled 17 on the night.
The win secures the program’s seventh straight District 8-4A title and moves the Bobcats to 18-8-1 on the season.
The Bobcats are playing good baseball right now, and it showed Tuesday night. With another matchup against the Carter-Riverside Eagles on Friday and more games ahead, they’ll keep building on it as the postseason gets closer.
