A visit to the Benbrook Public Library just became more welcoming for residents with sensory needs.
The library has officially become a certified sensory-inclusive location through KultureCity, a national organization focused on improving accessibility for individuals with sensory sensitivities and invisible disabilities. Staff members recently completed specialized training to better support patrons who may experience sensory challenges.
As part of the program, the library now offers a quiet area along with sensory support tools available for in-house use. Visitors can request a KultureCity sensory bag at the front desk. These drawstring bags are designed for all ages and include noise-cancelling headphones, fidget tools, visual cue cards, strobe reduction glasses, and an ID card on a lanyard. A weighted blanket is also available upon request.
Library leaders say the goal is simple. Create a space where everyone in the Benbrook community feels comfortable, supported, and able to enjoy the library’s resources.
