Transportation Options for Visually Impaired Workers.

A heartfelt question shared by a resident this week sparked an outpouring of helpful responses from the community, all centered on one goal. Helping a visually impaired woman get to work reliably and safely.

The woman, who is legally blind in one eye and partially blind in the other, is unable to drive. She works multiple jobs, including at Westcliff Elementary School with the Camp Fire after-school program and another role in the TCU area on Tuesdays.

While family members help when they can, inconsistent schedules make daily transportation a challenge. As neighbors chimed in, several important options surfaced.

Residents noted that standard Trinity Metro bus routes do not regularly serve Benbrook, and Trinity Metro On Demand does not currently operate in the city. However, Trinity Metro does provide limited service in Benbrook on Tuesdays and Thursdays through coordinated programs.

Multiple people recommended reaching out to Catholic Charities, which helps arrange transportation for residents on those service days. Several shared personal experiences using Catholic Charities for medical and essential rides, calling it reliable and supportive.

Others pointed to Trinity Metroโ€™s Paratransit service, designed specifically for riders with disabilities. This service requires a short application process and physician paperwork but offers scheduled transportation once approved.

Additional resources mentioned include Lighthouse for the Blind in Fort Worth, which may offer guidance, mobility services, or financial assistance.

Residents also highlighted the City of Benbrookโ€™s Transportation for the Elderly and Disabled page, which outlines local and regional services.

Beyond the logistics, the conversation carried a strong note of encouragement. Neighbors praised the womanโ€™s independence, work ethic, and dedication to the children she serves, with several offering personal help if needed.

For families navigating similar challenges, this exchange served as a reminder that while transportation options can be complex, local knowledge and community support often make the difference.
