This November, Texans will head to the polls to vote on a wide range of proposed amendments to the state constitution. From taxes and education to property rights and public safety, these measures could impact everyday life across the state—including right here in Benbrook.
Among the proposals, voters will decide whether to permanently fund workforce education at Texas State Technical College, prohibit future capital gains and inheritance taxes, and expand bail denial for those accused of violent crimes.
Several amendments also aim to shape the state’s economic future, such as exempting animal feed from taxes, increasing inventory tax exemptions for small businesses, and establishing long-term funding for water infrastructure.
Property owners and families will also find measures designed to ease financial pressures. One proposal seeks to increase the homestead exemption for schools, while another would raise exemptions for seniors and disabled homeowners.
Additional measures include new protections for veterans’ surviving spouses, tax relief for homes destroyed by fire, and limits on property tax increases tied to border security infrastructure.
Voters will also weigh in on the creation of a Dementia Research Institute, parental rights protections, and a constitutional safeguard ensuring only U.S. citizens can vote in state elections.
Each amendment has supporters and critics, and the choice ultimately comes down to Texans making informed decisions.
