When it comes to managing city finances, Benbrook City Council member Keith Tiner has made one priority clear: protect residents’ wallets while keeping city services strong. Over the past several years, that strategy has paid off—literally.
Since the 2017–2018 budget cycle, Benbrook’s sales tax revenue has doubled, creating a steady financial boost that helps balance the city’s budget without over-relying on property taxes. Tiner, who has served on the City Council for four years, says monitoring sales tax growth has been key to ensuring the city remains financially healthy while maintaining a conservative budgeting approach.
That growth is now helping keep property taxes lower. In fact, the city’s property tax rate has decreased each year during Tiner’s time on the council.
The goal, he explains, is to keep driving sales tax revenue upward through smart partnerships with the Benbrook Economic Development Corporation (EDC). By attracting restaurants, grocery stores, and other local businesses that generate sales tax, the city can continue easing the property tax burden for residents.
It’s a simple formula that makes a big difference: responsible budgeting, growing business, and steady financial stewardship—all aimed at keeping Benbrook an affordable, thriving community for everyone.
