Some Benbrook homeowners may soon find themselves in the same situation as a local resident who received notice from the Benbrook Water Authority that their backflow prevention assembly did not pass inspection.
These devices, required under the BWA Cross Connection Control Program, prevent contaminated water from flowing back into the public supply.
In this case, the test showed that Check Valve #1 did not close properly at or above 1 psi. The city requires that the assembly be repaired or replaced promptly to avoid water service interruption.
Repairs can be handled by the homeowner or a licensed backflow assembly test company, but replacements must be done by a licensed irrigator (for irrigation systems) or plumber.
Once the work is complete, homeowners must notify the BWA Environmental Services Department before September 8, 2025, at cmoore@benbrookwater.com or by calling 817-975-3096. A list of approved companies and permit details is available at benbrookwater.com.
If your system is aging or you receive a similar notice, acting quickly not only keeps your water safe but also avoids an inconvenient service shutdown.
