For many students, school events come and go. But for the Air Force JROTC cadets at Western Hills High School, last weekend felt a little different.
Inside the Fort Worth Elks Lodge #124, the annual Military Ball brought together tradition, pride, and a sense of purpose that extended beyond a typical night out. Dressed in formal attire, cadets stepped into an evening that honored both where they are and who they are becoming.
The night began with a formal dinner, followed by one of the evening’s most meaningful moments: the POW/MIA table ceremony. It served as a quiet, powerful reminder of the sacrifices tied to the uniform many of these students aspire to wear.
From there, the tone shifted into celebration. Cadets took part in time-honored traditions, with the announcement of Lord and Lady, Duke and Duchess, Prince and Princess, and King and Queen. The dance floor followed, filled with laughter, music, and the kind of memories that tend to stick long after high school ends.
More than anything, the evening reflected what the program is all about. Leadership. Service. Camaraderie. Not just words, but values these students are actively learning to live out.

Moments like this may last only a few hours, but for these cadets, the impact reaches much further.
