Western Hills High School had plenty to be proud of this week as six JROTC Cadets carried the school’s spirit into two important community events on November 18. Their efforts highlighted the kind of leadership and teamwork that often happen quietly behind the scenes but deserve a spotlight.
Four cadets opened the Waverly Park PTA meeting by presenting the colors in honor of local veterans. It was a moment that set the tone for the gathering and reflected the respect and discipline these students bring to their program.
At the same time, two other cadets answered a last-minute call to represent JROTC at the WHHS Programs of Choice Open House. They staffed the program’s table, connected with families, and helped future students learn about JROTC. Their willingness to jump in kept the school’s presence strong.
By the end of the night, all six students had shown the kind of unity and commitment that make Western Hills proud. The cadets recognized for their service were C/Maj Frances Hickey, C/Capt Amalie Angeles, C/Capt DeVonne Gould, C/1Lt Ricky Williams, C/MSgt Karina Ramos, and C/MSgt Jose Miranda.
Benbrook and the broader WHHS community continue to benefit from young leaders like these who give their time with heart, purpose, and a real sense of service.
