Public comment periods are often where community members get their few minutes to be heard. At this week’s Fort Worth ISD Board of Managers meeting, one Western Hills High School alumna made sure her voice was among them.
Speaking during the June 1 meeting, the former Cougar addressed district leaders amid ongoing community discussion surrounding the reassignment of former Western Hills Principal Shayma Alzubi. Her remarks came during a meeting that drew residents, parents, educators, and alumni who wanted to share their perspectives on issues affecting the district.
The speaker also criticized efforts to limit public comments, referencing requests made during the meeting to turn off microphones while community members addressed the board.
The discussion follows recent controversy surrounding Alzubi’s reassignment, a decision that has sparked debate across Fort Worth and generated strong reactions from supporters and critics alike.
Regardless of where residents stand on the issue, one theme was evident throughout the meeting: community members remain deeply invested in the future of Fort Worth ISD and the leaders who serve its students.
For many in attendance, the evening was less about politics and more about ensuring their voices were heard on matters they believe impact local schools, educators, and children.
