September 18 packs a double punch of celebration. While many folks are biting into a juicy burger for National Cheeseburger Day, history buffs and patriots alike recognize another milestone: the birthday of the United States Air Force.
In 1947, the National Security Act separated the Air Force from the U.S. Army, giving rise to the most advanced air power in the world. With a motto of Aim High; Fly-Fight-Win and guiding values of integrity, service before self, and excellence in all we do, the Air Force has shaped global defense for 78 years and counting.
Closer to home, Western Hills High School takes pride in being the only Fort Worth ISD campus to host an Air Force JROTC program, allowing local students to learn leadership, discipline, and service under the same banner of air power.
So while you enjoy a cheeseburger today, take a moment to salute the men and women who have kept skies safe for generations. It’s a reminder that some days are made for both flavor and flight.
