A fatal crash shut down westbound I-20 near Winscott Road for much of the morning, as Benbrook police and Tarrant County deputies worked to investigate and clear the scene.
Witnesses reported a young man was stranded in the center lane inside a silver sedan, with no hazard lights and no way to move his stalled vehicle. Some drivers tried to help, even calling 911, but within moments, the sedan was struck by a semi-truck. Another 18-wheeler had just barely avoided hitting him. Sadly, the second semi had no time to react.
The semi-truck driver was not injured. The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. Eyewitnesses shared that the young man appeared panicked and unsure of how to respond in the final moments.
Though full details have yet to be officially released by Benbrook police, the incident is a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly traffic emergencies can turn deadly.
Weโll share updates as they become available. In the meantime, please take a moment to reflect, and drive with care.
