Finding time to exercise can be a challenge, but the Benbrook Community Center YMCA says a solid workout may be closer than you think.
For those with just 30 minutes to spare, the YMCA encourages members to head to the pool for a simple swimming routine that combines cardio, movement, and recovery in a single session.
The suggested workout begins with a short warm-up, followed by a steady main swim set, light skill work, and a relaxed cool-down. The goal is to keep moving, focus on breathing, and build fitness without overcomplicating the workout.
30-Minute Swim Routine
0-5 Minutes: Warm-Up
- 2-3 easy lengths
- Relaxed pace with a focus on breathing
5-15 Minutes: Main Set
- 6-8 lengths total
- Swim one length, then rest 30-60 seconds
- Maintain a smooth, comfortable pace
15-22 Minutes: Light Skill Work
- 4 easy lengths of kicking or relaxed swimming
- Keep the effort low
22-30 Minutes: Cool Down
- 2-4 very easy lengths
- Focus on slow, relaxed breathing
Whether you’re looking for a quick workout before work, during lunch, or after a busy day, swimming offers a low-impact way to stay active while working your entire body.
Just don’t forget your water bottle before heading to the pool.
