Tarrant County Homeowners See Major Savings After Property Tax Appeals.

Benbrook and Tarrant County homeowners are seeing big changes in their 2025 property tax bills, with some residents reporting cuts by nearly half after filing formal disputes. What began as a conversation among neighbors quickly evolved into a lesson in how a little research and the right assistance can make a significant difference.

One homeowner shared that after paying $315 to a property tax consultant, their bill dropped from $7,811 in 2023 to $3,506 in 2025. Others on the same street noticed similar discrepancies when comparing property values of nearly identical homesโ€”some were paying far more, while others, even larger, were paying less.

This yearโ€™s lower numbers are partly due to the increase in the Texas homestead exemption to $140,000, which significantly reduced taxable property values for qualifying homeowners. Still, those who filed appeals say the key was presenting evidence that comparable homes were valued inconsistently by the Tarrant Appraisal District.

For those considering a protest, several local organizations can provide assistance. Many residents have used Tarrant Property Tax (3125 Marquita, Fort Worth, TX 76116, 817-244-4200, rebecca@tarrantpropertytax.com) with positive results. Others recommend independent consultant Chandler Couch, known for assisting homeowners across the county with tax disputes at little or no cost.

To check your updated property valuation or tax bill, visit the Tarrant Appraisal District online at tcad.org. All 2025 property data was updated as of October 1, and physical notices are expected to arrive by mail soon.

With rising insurance costs and changing escrow payments, many homeowners hope these reductions will bring some much-needed balance to household budgets heading into the new year.
