What started as a walk around Benbrook Lake turned into an unexpected animal rescue.
A local resident recently reported hearing what sounded like a distressed cat or raccoon coming from brush near the water’s edge. With lake levels exposing areas that have been underwater for some time, the unusual noise prompted a closer look.
Instead of a wild animal, the resident and her husband discovered a rooster trapped among the lakeside vegetation. The bird was safely rescued and turned over to animal control.
But the surprise did not end there.
As the couple was leaving the area near Baja Beach, they spotted another rooster and three chickens roaming freely along the shoreline.
The rescued rooster is currently with animal control, and the resident hopes the owner may come forward. Anyone missing a rooster may want to contact local animal control for additional information.
It’s not every day that a walk around the lake turns into a farm animal rescue, but in Benbrook, even a quiet stroll can come with a surprise or two.
