For Benbrook drivers navigating the I-20 corridor, construction work continues to bring new traffic shifts and occasional slowdowns.
The most immediate change arrives June 16-17, when the inside lane of the eastbound I-20 frontage road approaching the eastbound entrance ramp will be closed daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Crews will be replacing safety devices in coordination with nearby highway work.
Several longer-term traffic changes also remain in place.
On the westbound frontage road, the approach to FM 1187/FM 3325 has been reduced to two lanes as construction continues on new pavement. Drivers will find a shared left-turn and through lane, along with a dedicated right-turn lane.
Meanwhile, eastbound frontage road traffic was shifted onto newly constructed pavement earlier this spring. Portions of the roadway between FM 1187 and Walsh Ranch Parkway remain narrowed to a single lane while work continues.
The lane reductions are part of the ongoing I-20/I-30 interchange improvement project, which is expected to bring periodic traffic adjustments as construction progresses.
For many local drivers, the route may look a little different each week. Paying close attention to signage and allowing extra travel time can help make the commute a bit smoother while the work continues.
