Life-Threatening Accident Causes Major Power Outage Across Benbrook.

What began as the first afternoon of summer break turned into a tense scene across parts of Benbrook on Friday after a reported life-threatening accident caused a widespread power outage affecting thousands of residents.

Emergency crews from the Benbrook Police Department, the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office, and the constable’s office responded to the 9100 block of Benview Court following reports of an electrocution involving two elderly adults.

As of Friday afternoon, no official update had been released on the patients’ condition. CareFlite was reportedly placed on standby as first responders worked the scene.

The outage spread across Benbrook South on both sides of Highway 377, with reports of outages stretching from the Mercedes area to Lochness Lane in Benbrook. Businesses along Highway 377 were also left without power Friday afternoon.

Drivers faced major traffic problems throughout the area as several traffic lights went dark. The traffic signals at Highway 377 and Interstate 20 remained operational, but traffic lights south of I-20 along 377 were reported out, creating heavy congestion and dangerous driving conditions.

Residents are urged to exercise extreme caution when traveling through the area, as traffic continues to back up at major intersections.

The incident also triggered a major power outage across parts of Benbrook and the Westpark area. According to the Oncor Storm Center, more than 2,000 customers were impacted after the outage was first reported around 2:08 p.m. At approximately 2:27 p.m., Oncor estimated power restoration could take until about 5:30 p.m.

Residents are being asked to remain calm and keep those involved in the accident in their thoughts as crews continue responding and working to restore service.

Updates can be monitored through the Oncor outage map. This remains a developing story.
