Fort Worth Takes Over EMS Services for 14 Tarrant County Cities.

Fort Worth, Texas – February 2025 – Fort Worth is set to become the emergency medical services (EMS) provider for 14 cities across Tarrant County, marking a major shift in regional EMS operations.

The move comes after the City Council approved a series of agreements that will formally dissolve MedStar, the county’s longtime EMS provider, and transfer responsibility to a new fire-based EMS division under Fort Worth Fire Department.

Rather than subsidizing the service, the city opted to manage EMS operations internally, leading to independent agreements with other municipalities.

The transition, effective July 1, 2025, includes cities such as Haltom City, Saginaw, White Settlement, and River Oaks, among others. Each will enter customized agreements outlining performance standards, system services, financial responsibilities, and reporting requirements.

Most cities will commit to a 10-year agreement, while Edgecliff Village will operate under an initial five-year term. Payments will be based on EMS call volume per city, with budgets adjusted annually to reflect actual service usage.

This transition marks a significant overhaul of Tarrant County’s emergency response landscape, aiming for faster, more reliable service while reinforcing Fort Worth’s leadership in regional public safety.
