Fort Worth ISD Transparency Questioned Over School Closure Talks.

BENBROOK, TX — Concerns over transparency are swirling in Fort Worth ISD as the Fort Worth ISD Watchdog raises questions about the district’s handling of Community Facility Meetings, Task Force, and Steering Committee discussions on potential school closures and campus mergers.

The district hired Alabama-based firm HPM to analyze building conditions and develop a facility master plan, costing taxpayers nearly $2.7 million, exceeding the original $2.075 million approval set in September 2023. The funds are drawn from the 2021 Bond, according to district records.

The Watchdog claims the Task Force of nearly 100 members and a smaller Steering Committee are not operating transparently. Attendance at meetings has reportedly been low, and members allegedly receive minimal information.

The controversy grew when Tracy Richter, HPM’s Vice President, reportedly mentioned to parents at Benbrook Middle-High School that the City of Fort Worth is interested in acquiring up to 10 school properties, with Charles E. Nash Elementary specifically named. However, FWISD Deputy Superintendent Kellie Spencer refuted this claim, stating no official list exists and that Charles Nash is not for sale.

Despite this, the Watchdog suspects a predetermined plan is in play, speculating that other schools like North Hi Mount, De Zavala Elementary, McLean 6th, Daggett Montessori, and Applied Learning Academy could be on the city’s radar for redevelopment into housing or apartment complexes.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed and engaged as the situation unfolds.
