What began as a rescue became a heartbreaking loss at Benbrook Lake.

After a three-day search, emergency crews recovered the body of a man Monday morning who entered the water Saturday in an effort to save a child. Search operations continued under difficult conditions, including strong winds, rough water, and submerged trees, which made recovery efforts especially challenging.

At the family’s request, authorities have not released the man’s identity.

His final act was one of extraordinary courage, as he chose to risk his own life to help someone else. While the outcome is deeply tragic, many in the community are remembering him as a hero whose selfless actions reflected the very best of humanity.
