Fort Worth ISD officials are exploring a plan to expand their partnership with Texas Wesleyan University by transferring operations of Leonard Middle School to the university’s Leadership Academy Network.
The district’s board will vote on the proposal to renew the partnership, which already oversees five campuses, and add Leonard Middle School to the initiative.
Leonard Middle School has faced persistent academic challenges, earning an F rating in multiple years. In 2023, only 8% of students met grade-level math standards, and 17% reached reading benchmarks. The partnership aims to replicate past successes, as the original five Leadership Academy campuses have shown significant improvement since Texas Wesleyan took over operations in 2019.
The board meeting to discuss the proposal is set for Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 5:30 p.m. at the Fort Worth ISD Service Center.
