Farrington Field, a Fort Worth landmark with deep community roots, is once again in the spotlight.
A recent Fort Worth Magazine feature sparked renewed attention when a digital headline suggested the school district was preparing to sell. That detail, the article’s author later clarified, was incorrect.
The stadium remains essential to FWISD sports, with no immediate plans for a sale.
However, long-running conversations about its future continue, especially as the city and developers eye the high-value property. A Tax Increment Financing district approved in June could help address stormwater issues that have discouraged development, while also leaving the door open for preservation.
Proposals and renderings tied to the TIF hint at significant changes, including luxury suites, new end zone facilities, shops, restaurants, and possibly housing or a hotel. A pro soccer presence has also been floated. While preservation is possible, it is far from certain, and the track could be removed under redevelopment plans.
Legal history adds another wrinkle. Although the property originally came from the city in the 1930s with the understanding that it would be used for public good, FWISD now believes it could sell without restriction due to past court rulings on similar land.
For now, Farrington remains in FWISD’s hands. Its ultimate fate will depend on how preservation goals, development ambitions, and the needs of students and the community intersect in the years ahead.
