Five years ago, longtime Benbrook residents Gary and Danna McFarlane Addison launched the Positively Benbrook Facebook page with a simple goal in mind: highlight the good happening across the community.
That mission recently came full circle with the presentation of the very first Positively Benbrook Person of the Year Award, honoring a neighbor whose service has left a lasting mark on the city.
Jamie Bengford was recognized for years of quiet, consistent leadership and hands-on service.
His efforts include creating retirement boxes for worn U.S. flags, bringing Wreaths Across America to Benbrook to honor fallen veterans, serving as the community representative for VFW Post 10429, and founding a local 5K dedicated to suicide prevention awareness.
A second-term member of the Benbrook Area Chamber of Commerce, Bengford will also begin serving on the Benbrook YMCA board this year.
Surrounded by his wife Jody and their granddaughter (picture: James, Jody, granddaughter, Gary and Danna), the recognition reflected what many in Benbrook already know: service, heart, and humility still matter, and they continue to shape the strength of this community.
