Opening Day at the Benbrook Artisans and Farmers Market felt less like a routine Saturday and more like a community reunion.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., more than 100 vendors filled the space with plants, produce, baked goods, sauces, dips, and handmade specialties. Peppers and tomato starts lined the tables, heirloom seedlings drew steady interest, and rows of jars and bottles promised bold flavors for backyard kitchens across town.
For some, it was about stocking up. For others, it was about something deeper. Several vendors shared how gardening and growing food offer a steady outlet, especially for veterans who find peace in planting, tending, and building something new with their hands.
Local favorites were out in full force. Coachโs Bass Lures hosted a raffle drawing. Wiki-licious Mid-Cities served up malasadas in birthday cake and passion fruit flavors. Selin Eryurek handed out samples of what many call the best dips in Benbrook.
Meanwhile, Big Sky Sweet Treats displayed cakes and cake pops, while The Cheese Lady offered smoked parmesan and a variety of other specialty cheeses. Flour and Faith Bakery thanked returning and first-time customers for their continued support.
The season is just getting started. Residents can expect previews of their favorite products, along with new vendors, in the weeks ahead.
