What started with coffee at Avoca, a late arrival, and a patient first date has taken one Benbrook couple somewhere they never expected: the quarterfinals of America’s Favorite Couple.
Cayt and Will are competing for a chance to be featured in Variety, win $20,000, and join a triple date with Jeff and Emilie Goldblum and Charlie Day and Mary Elizabeth Ellis.
Their story began over coffee and quickly found its personality. A week after meeting, Will drove four hours to join Cayt at Wurstfest. There was greasy pizza, dancing to “Sweet Caroline,” a kiss after surviving the corn dog line and, eventually, an ongoing joke involving condiments and a gift-wrapped jar of Grey Poupon.
“We clicked instantly and have basically been on one long sleepover with our best friend ever since,” Cayt shared.
Their favorite memories tend to be less elaborate. They point to long walks together, from rainy mornings in Boston to wandering neighborhoods, stopping outside Central Market and stumbling across the unexpected sights that somehow become part of their story.
If they win the $20,000 prize, the couple plans to put it toward their wedding weekend in Mexico, which they envision with black-tie attire, martinis, great food and “a little James Bond energy.”
Cayt and Will have now advanced to the quarterfinals and are asking Benbrook neighbors to help keep their run going. Voting toward the semifinals closes Thursday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. PDT. Supporters can cast a daily vote, while donation votes benefit hunger relief and ocean conservation efforts.
As Cayt put it, the contest has become “one of the weirdest corners of the internet we’ve ever accidentally wandered into,” which could also turn into quite the love story.
