Benbrook City Council Declares Surplus Ambulances, Approves Employee Insurance Renewals.

The Benbrook City Council met on October 16, 2025, to cover a full agenda of city updates and approvals. Mayor Jason Ward led the meeting, joined by council members and key city staff.

A major item included approval to sell four decommissioned ambulances, which were replaced earlier this year with funding from the American Rescue Plan Act. The City of Fort Worth offered $240,000 for the surplus vehicles, and proceeds from the sale will go into Benbrookโ€™s Capital Asset Replacement Fund.

Council also voted to deny Oncorโ€™s proposed rate increase, which would have raised residential bills by more than 12 percent. City leaders agreed with the Steering Committee of Cities Served by Oncor’s recommendations that the rate hike was unreasonable.

Budget-related approvals continued with funding for tourism and events through the cityโ€™s Hotel/Motel Occupancy Tax, totaling $177,512 for the 2025-26 fiscal year. The allocation includes support for promoting Benbrook and hosting the annual Heritage Fest.

Employee insurance renewals were also finalized. The city approved one-year contracts with Cigna for health and dental coverage, maintaining existing benefits while negotiating lower-than-proposed rate increases.

Before adjourning, Councilmember Renee Franklin highlighted upcoming community and Halloween events, and Councilmember Keith Tiner reminded residents about early voting ahead of the November 4 election.

The next Benbrook City Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 6, 2025. For agendas and minutes, visit benbrook-tx.gov.
