Benbrook Choir Director Earns National Grammy Recognition.

Inside the choir room at Benbrook Middle-High School, music is only part of the lesson.

Students under the choir director, Emily Saenz, are learning to lead, serve, connect with others, and care for the community around them. That impact is now receiving national recognition.

Fort Worth ISD announced that Saenz has been named a quarterfinalist for the 2027 Grammy Music Educator Award, placing her among the top 200 music educators in the country out of more than 7,000 nominations nationwide.

At BMHS, Saenz has built a choir culture centered on belonging and community. Students regularly participate in service projects across the area, including performing at churches during an annual holiday choir tour, visiting nursing home residents, and helping restock local food pantries.

The experiences stretch well beyond concerts and competitions. Students are learning empathy, confidence, leadership, and how to use their gifts to encourage others.

Those who know Dr. Saenz say that is exactly what makes her program special. Whether leading rehearsals, organizing outreach opportunities, or helping students build confidence, her focus has always been on people first.

During Teacher Appreciation Week, the recognition feels especially fitting.

Benbrook students may enter her classroom because of music, but many leave with something even greater: a stronger sense of purpose, confidence, and community.
