Something’s stirring in Benbrook, and it’s not just summer heat. Behind the trees and tucked just across Mary’s Creek, heavy equipment is moving dirt—and with it, raising concern.
When Sean Moore got a call from Mayor Jason Ward earlier this week, he wasn’t surprised. Residents have been vocal. They’ve asked questions. They’ve shown up.
Now, after a sit-down meeting on July 17, Moore is asking his neighbors to help sharpen the message. Clear, concise talking points with facts, sources, and firsthand insight are necessary to ensure that every resident’s voice is represented.
The stakes are high. A developer, Rowan Development, is pushing forward with construction in a designated floodplain. On the surface, city officials promise everything is above board. But those who’ve done the homework say otherwise.
Residents on the north side of Benbrook recall a similar situation: meetings filled with “I hear you” sentiments, followed by decisions that seemed to favor developers, complete with waivers to ordinances and shrugged shoulders from officials when pressed for real answers.
Some neighbors have turned to public records and transparency forums like Nextdoor to uncover what they believe is a pattern of disregard. They’re asking hard questions and warning others not to wait. Legal advice is encouraged. Personal stories are being shared.
One key voice in the fight, Greg Clem, has been collecting and sharing documentation. While he’s not on Facebook, anyone seeking background or clarification is encouraged to contact him for more information.
The next opportunity to join the conversation will be on Monday, July 21, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, located on Williams Road.
The agenda is straightforward: unpack the floodplain concerns, examine the financial and safety risks, and chart a course of action. Residents will also discuss how to hold local officials accountable, including potential leadership changes.
This issue isn’t just about a patch of land. It’s about transparency, safety, and whether the people elected to protect Benbrook neighborhoods are actually listening. If you live here, it matters. This meeting is an opportunity to make your voice heard.
And if you’re tuning into NBC5, keep an eye out for coverage on this story tonight, July 18. Sean Moore and Ryan Reagan will be featured at 4:30 and again at 6 p.m., with drone footage offering a closer look at the area in question.
Stay informed. Stay involved. Benbrook is watching.
