Benbrook Fire Department Teams Up to Support AAC Awareness.

Benbrook is stepping up in a big way to make communication more accessible for everyone—starting with our own first responders.

The Benbrook Fire Department recently spent time over the weekend learning how to use AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) boards in emergency situations from a local resident, helping ensure that no voice goes unheard in a crisis.

AAC boards are communication tools designed for individuals who have difficulty speaking. Whether low-tech with pictures and symbols or high-tech with voice output, these boards help users express thoughts, needs, and emotions by pointing or selecting words and images. They’re especially useful for individuals with autism, speech disorders, or physical disabilities.

By becoming familiar with AAC tools, our firefighters are enhancing their ability to serve every member of the community—especially those with unique communication needs.
