A special aircraft appeared at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth on Wednesday, October 28, as NASA’s experimental X-59 stopped at the installation.
The X-59 is part of NASA’s effort to make supersonic flight quieter by reducing the loud sonic booms typically produced when aircraft travel faster than the speed of sound.
Researchers hope the aircraft will help demonstrate how quieter supersonic flight could eventually make commercial air travel over land possible.
For the Fort Worth area, it was a rare visit from an aircraft helping shape the future of aviation.
